The Public Commuter’s Guide to Hong Kong’s high-end budget shopping

Have you ever wished of buying branded items like a Louis Vuitton speedy bag or Prada shoes? I know some of us do but we just don’t have enough resources to buy one (just even one). And we know that buying fake items would definitely make us a genuine phony.

So here’s the thing: If you have plans of visiting Hong Kong anytime soon, and shopping is a major component of your trip, then why don’t you consider shopping for branded, original and DISCOUNTED labels like Louis Vuitton, Coach, Burberry or even Prada?

Personally, I like to shop for branded items, but I don’t really want to spend a lot of money for a single bag. Which is why I always make sure that I research for outlet stores that sell off season items with reasonable discounts. Don’t worry if it’s off-season. After all, a good label will never age. 🙂

So when I had my visit at Hong Kong, I discovered some major outlet stores that carry brands like Coach, Burberry, Prada, Armani, etc. and I am more than happy to share with you where and how to find them!

  • Prada and Miu Miu (Space Outlet) – Of all the outlet stores that I have visited, this is so far the most elusive one. It’s in Marina Square, located at the residential part of Hong Kong, Ap Lei Chau. What’s really interesting is that the store is just located right beside a fish market (how elusive is that). They basically sell all premium Prada and Miu Miu items ranging from HKD900 and up. Almost 70% of the items are for ladies. But good thing there is a section for men (or else this will never be mentioned). I got a pair of shoes that costs HKD1,300 or roughly around Php7,000. Duh, that’s Prada, how can that be expensive?!

Getting there: Take a bus going to Ap Lei Chau. You can basically find these buses at Causeway Bay. Travel time is roughly an hour. Once you are there, take a 15 minute walk going to Marina Square. A lot of people always find a hard time locating the store (and I might confuse you more). So once you’re in Ap Lei Chau, don’t hesitate to ask anyone where the store is located.

Major tip: The store could sometimes be packed (not in my case). So I suggest you go there in the morning and have more time cruising around the store. They open from 10:30am to 7:30pm and Sundays/Holidays from 12:00pm to 7:00pm

  • Citygate Outlet Stores – of all the shopping centers that I have been to in Asia, this is so far the best mall EVER! It’s a multi-story edifice containing all the BEST OUTLET STORES! To name a few: Nike, Quiksilver, Burberry, Coach, Calvin Klein, Esprit, Giordano, Armani, Tommy, Club 21 outlet. You will certainly drool with all the nice brands available! I am highly recommending that you visit this place and spend HOURS walking around. I spent the entire afternoon staying here as I could not decide on what to buy. 🙂

Citygate Outlet Stores is conveniently located in Lantau Island. This is basically near Disneyland (which I think you can also make this as your side-trip). Ride an MTR and get-off at Tung Chung station. The station is connected to the mall so getting there is easy breezy.

  • Tokyo Brand Off – This is not an outlet store, but you can definitely buy pre-loved LV (among others) at very reasonable prices. I remember a friend purchased her speedy 35 for only P20,000 (with a minor scratch). Man, I don’t mind if there’s a scratch as long as they’re real!

Tokyo Brand Off Stores are everywhere. Visit their site and find a location near your place.

With the numerous stores available in Hong Kong catering to all social classes (including the social climbers), Hong Kong is definitely true to its word as Asia’s Shopping Capital!

Happy Shopping! And don’t buy fake goods okay?
